Process

dg-RheinRod™ is manufactured using the Southwire Continuous Rod (SCR®) process, which combines melting, casting and rolling.
The primary material is melted in a cathode shaft furnace using natural gas burners, and is then cast into a continuous bar by means of a casting wheel. At a downstream rolling mill, the bar is shaped into a round wire using several roll stands. Pickling, cleaning and waxing equipment create a surface that is largely scale-free and protected against oxidation. The finished rod is wound into a coil using a coiler and is packed on pallets.

The entire manufacturing line features state-of-the-art equipment for control, automation and quality control purposes. All relevant process and quality parameters are collected, logged and archived electronically.
